In ageing Japanese village, dolls take place of dwindling population

The demographics for Japan are being duplicated in Russia and China. By 2030 the population will be less than 100 million, 2105 it will be less than 45 million. These changes will lead to major shifts in the use of land, society, and economic activity.

But notice what humans do in response to the decline? They create a stand in. Here it could be pets, there it is robots and dolls but both speak to our fundamental need to connect. Take a look at the pics and ask if this is Norman Rockwell in dolls.
